Doug Kavanagh

Medical Director & Co-Founder

Doug Kavanagh is a Toronto-based family physician who specializes in electronic medical records development and knowledge translation. He is the author and former chief architect of TELUS PS Suite, Canada’s leading electronic medical records system. Doug has also created many clinical decision support systems deployed across the country, including Ontario’s first ePrescribing network for the Georgian Bay Family Health Team.

Doug has over fifteen years’ experience working with physicians and allied health professionals to improve their healthcare IT in a variety of clinical settings. He graduated at the top of his software engineering class at the University of Waterloo in 2006, received his medical doctorate from the University of Toronto in 2011 and now works as a community family physician and clinical instructor within the North York Family Health Team.

Jeff Kavanagh

President & Co-Founder

Jeff Kavanagh has spent the last 20 years in the enterprise software industry in various development and product leadership roles, working at firms such as Parametric Technology, Workbrain and Nelnet and managing large development teams. His specialty is building and running Internet-based hosted software (i.e. “cloud-based software-as-a-service”), which has been his area of focus for the last decade. Prior to starting CognisantMD, Jeff was the Director of Research and Development at Nelnet overseeing both the development and operations of the leading direct marketing platform in the education industry. He never likes to get far from the code though.

Jeff graduated from the Engineering Science program at the University of Toronto in 1999 and completed his MBA from the Rotman School of Management in 2004.

Jeff lives in North Toronto with his wife and eight boys.

Greg Taylor

Greg Taylor

VP Research & Development

Greg Taylor has 21 years of experience in the Toronto software industry, with software architecture roles in companies such as Sparkroom and Workbrain. Greg specializes in designing high quality, high availability, scalable software as a service (SaaS) applications, and has an obsession with simple, functional development processes. His most recent position was Director, Software Architecture for Nelnet/Sparkroom, where he oversaw software architecture and production operations for the 24x7x365 Sparkroom enrolment marketing automation product.

Greg graduated from the University of Waterloo with a joint honours Bachelor of Mathematics in Computer Science and Business Administration in 1992. He lives in Toronto with his two children.

Victoria Badgley

VP Business Operations

Victoria Badgley has spent the past 15 years working with technology start-ups, helping emerging companies to find their voice, spread their message, and grow their market.

Prior to joining CognisantMD, Victoria helped to lead the marketing efforts for a series of startups including KnexxLocal, TruCentric, Sparkroom, and Fortiva, a SaaS-based email archiving firm. Following Sparkroom’s acquisition by CUnet, Victoria was promoted to the role of Director of Corporate Marketing, where she was responsible for corporate marketing strategy and brand direction for the company’s digital marketing agency and lead generation technology group.

Victoria started her career in the agency world, specializing in PR for technology clients including Microsoft Canada, Sony, and Cisco Systems. She lives in Toronto with her husband and two children.
